Mixing the Record w/Ron @ I Scream Studio

So life has, in a good way, gone nuts…Once a week I’m doing a 10 hour mixing session in TLV. Then I run home and record my next song to be mixed for the album…except oops, suddenly my business has exploded so I’m doing 3 other people’s records in my studio…um, how did this happen?  Amazing how many folks show up when you announce you’re leaving! Seems its going to be hard to leave! Even just selling my insane amount (tho steadily dwindling) of music gear I’m suddenly getting noticed by studios, musicians, etc. that say they can’t believe they never heard of me…its a small scene here…

Hmmm…its tempting to push a career here – you get to be a huge fish in a small pond (pun intended)…except…where do you go?!? Its a population the size of Chicago! The nearest place to play is Europe, which is a plane ride. Syrians and Egyptians aren’t so into Jewish Electrocoustic Acid Folk Funk Jam band rockers (because of our horns)…and most Israelis seem to be trying to get out of here to get their break in the USA….I never really focused on performing here – just made sure I was making a living by producing and teaching, etc…but from what I did do I can’t see it being as full time thing here for me, in English, etc – unless I had gigs around the world…

So I feel I’m making a good move to base for a while in the USA, yet I have the feeling I will end up back here at some point…I feel connected here on some unexplicable level…yet, kind of letting it all go into flow for now…

Anyways, I’m mixing at I Scream studio in Ramat Gan (TLV suburb)…love these guys. I worked with an engineer, Ronen Hillel 4 years ago when I was at Waves Audio –  he was mixing Yehuda Polliker, who had a bunch of hits in Israel way back when…I played on some of Yehuda’s tunes in the Waves Audio studio…I saw Ronen was really talented and he ended up mixing the track “Axe To Fall” for me…Now Ronen is busy mixing the Eurovision contest (a huge deal out here) so he turned me on to Ron Karseboom, who just kicks ass. Ron had a track that he wrote played and recorded used in one of the American Pie movies. He’s got great ears, a really good musical sense and speaks fluent freaking English…I’m learning a ton from working with Ron. When I leave I’m planning to send people to this studio…Its cozy, the vibe is good and the guys are really talented engineers…

I’m kind of on a manic buzz from all the activity going on…haven’t been this busy in a decade or so…wow!

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to chilling w/ you all soon!
